Sweeping view of the valley

On the fire road ahead of me we see a Toyota SUV parked just off the road. What’s doing here? Approaching it we strike up a conversation with its owner, a short man who exudes energy and conversation. We quickly discover he is 75 years old and doing volunteer restoration work in the park. He regales us with stories of his life, including how his police escort was diverted to apprehend a criminal, he has seen 14 mountain lions and how he waited three years for his SUV to come to market.
